1. Vice Minister of
Foreign Affairs CHOI Jongmoon participated through a pre-recorded message in
the “COVAX AMC Summit 2022” co-organized on April 8 by the Gavi Alliance and
Germany, which holds the G7 Presidency.
※ COVAX AMC (Advance Market
Commitment): Multilateral partnership launched in June 2020 by the Gavi
Alliance (Gavi)*, which raises funds from public and private donors with a view
to providing COVID-19 vaccines for low- and middle-income countries
* Gavi is a
co-leading organization of the vaccine pillar of the ACT-Accelerator (Access to
COVID-19 Tools Accelerator).
2. At the Summit,
Vice Minister Choi stressed that we should continue to support the global
vaccination campaign to end the pandemic and affirmed that Korea would
contribute to the efforts by increasing the supply of vaccines and supporting
the capacity building of developing countries. He also added that Korea would
provide training to bio and healthcare professionals from low- and
middle-income countries, as a host country of the WHO Bio-manufacturing
Workforce Training Hub.

Vice Minister Choi then assured that Korea would continue its engagement in the
global efforts to strengthen preparedness for future health threats and
recognized Gavi’s key role in ensuring equitable access to vaccines.
3. Korea has
contributed 110 million US dollars to COVAX AMC so far. This year, Korea plans
to provide another 100 million dollars in the form of financial and in-kind
contributions, honoring its pledge made at the G7 Summit in June 2021.
